Spinal Manipulation (VSMT) at Healing Haven Animal Clinic

Functional Medicine

Veterinary Spinal Manipulation

Animal chiropractic. Restoring movement, relieving discomfort.

Animal Chiropractic

Healthy Movement Is a Critical Part of a Pet’s Quality of Life.

Veterinary Spinal Manipulation Therapy (VSMT) is used alongside traditional veterinary medicine to help relieve discomfort, improve mobility, and support your pet’s overall function.

The Healing Haven Difference

Every Pet Receives a Thorough Evaluation Before Treatment.

Every adjustment is tailored to their size, condition, and comfort level.

Rather than treating VSMT as a standalone therapy, we integrate it with traditional care and other supportive treatments for long-term comfort and mobility.

The Basics

What Is VSMT?

A hands-on technique using precise, low-amplitude, high-velocity thrusts to specific joints — most often along the spine — to restore normal motion and optimize neuromuscular function.

When a spinal segment doesn’t move well, the quality of sensory input to the nervous system can change, leading to altered movement patterns, muscle guarding, and discomfort. Gentle adjustments aim to normalize that input so the body can move more freely and efficiently.

Your Visit

What to Expect

Step one

Evaluation

A thorough assessment of your pet’s history, gait, and posture, with palpation of the spine and extremity joints.

Step two

Treatment

Targeted adjustments to hypomobile areas. Most pets tolerate the quick, gentle thrusts well and relax during treatment.

Afterward

Aftercare

Some pets feel brief, mild soreness. Light leash walks and plenty of water are encouraged; we may suggest exercise restrictions.

Over time

Frequency

Many pets start with 1–2 visits in the first 2–3 weeks, then taper to maintenance or transition to exercise-based care.

Because every plan is highly personal, recommendations for your pet — including activity and exercise guidance — are explained at their initial visit.
